Editorial Policy

This page explains how NickTop decides what goes on a list, what gets removed, and what we do when we get something wrong. It exists so you can judge our lists instead of taking them on trust.

Lists are ranked by measurement, not taste

The order of every ranked list on this site comes from one number: how many visitors actually copied that entry. We do not promote entries because we like them, and we do not sell placement. When a nickname climbs a list, it climbed because more people took it. The mechanics are described in detail on How NickTop Rankings Work.

This has a consequence worth stating plainly: our lists reflect what visitors to this site copy. That is a real signal, but it is not the same thing as global popularity, and we do not present it as such.

What gets onto a list

An entry has to clear three checks before it is published:

  1. It renders. Styled nicknames rely on Unicode characters that some platforms strip or refuse. We paste an entry into the target platform’s own name field before listing it. Entries that come back as boxes, or that the platform rejects outright, do not go on the list.
  2. It fits the list it is on. A Free Fire in-game name and an Instagram display name have different length limits and different character rules. We keep those lists separate rather than publishing one list and calling it universal.
  3. It is not a duplicate. Near-identical entries padding out a list make the list longer without making it more useful.

What gets removed

Platforms change their name filters without notice, and a character that worked last month can stop working. When we find an entry that no longer passes, we take it off the list rather than leaving it there to waste your time. We also remove entries that turn out to be slurs or impersonation attempts in a language we did not initially read.

Anything version-dependent carries a date

Where a claim depends on a game patch or an app version, we write the version and the month next to the claim. If you are reading this a year later, you can see for yourself how stale the note is instead of guessing.

Who writes this

Pages on NickTop are written and reviewed by the NickTop editorial team. We publish under that name rather than inventing individual bylines, photographs, or credentials we do not have. If that changes, this page changes with it.

When we are wrong

We correct the page and update its modified date. We do not quietly edit a claim and pretend it was never there. If you have found something wrong — a dead character, a rule that changed, a list that no longer matches reality — tell us through Contact. Reader reports reach us faster than our own re-checks do.

Lines we do not cross

  • We do not invent copy counts, ratings, or review scores.
  • We do not sell list positions, and we do not accept payment to add an entry.
  • We never ask for your password, your one-time code, or any account credential.
  • We do not publish guidance that would get your account actioned by the platform it targets.
